Christ has no body on earth but yours,

no hands but yours,

no feet but yours.

Yours are the eyes through which

Christ's compassion for the world is to look out;

Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good;

and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.

Habitat in Sante Fe, Argentina

This year's Global Village build will take place in Sante Fe, Argentina - a mere 6 hour bus ride from Buenos Aires. When the Salado River overflowed its banks into the City of Sante Fe in April 2003, more than 30,000 families were affected. According to estimates by UN experts, the impact on the province's gross national product was as damaging as that of the earthquakes in El Salvador. Prior to the flood, the city already had one of the highest poverty indexes and housing deficits in the country. A quarter of the city's inhabitants already lived in substandard housing settlements surrounded by garbage dumps and contaminated waters. Theft and violence, along with the contamination, are the biggest threats to decent living in Sante Fe.

Day 2 on the work site

Ok,, once again a mystery on the picture order, but here goes.
Cory was determined not to let the lock get the better of her - hey, I heard you learned the secret to getting the lock to work! There is also a picture of Sheri taking a break and taking in a laugh.

There's a picture of Larry and Carmen smiling after seeing their work.

After moving all the cement slabs, Carmen tries out a yoga pose Karen tought us - felt great on the shoulders!!

After moving very heavy cement blocks I realized that the 'ol gray mare ain't what she used to be!

Cory takes a turn at digging the trench - hey, are those NASCAR sunglasses???? Me, Laura and Cory take a photo break.

Next, Larry is put into service making the plaster - Cory offers excellent supervision! Cory then finds out just how heavy the cement blocks are - AND with a flat tire on the wheel barrel.

Well, day 2 turned out to be quite the day of physical labor! A team of us continued to work on the outside patio. This meant that we had to take wheel barrels and go down the street to pick up big cement slabs that weighted about 120 lbs and push them all the way UP a hill to our work area. We then had to take out the slabs and stack them. We had to move 30 of these slabs. As you can tell by the picture it was exhausting to say the least. I am already sore! The rest of the crew - aka - The Plaster Masters - were inside working away on the apartments. Josh and Riley continued to be beaten down by Dorothy - their work supervisor - way to go Dorothy!!! Dorothy is one of the Habitat workers here in Poland. She will be going off to Oxford in a month to study architecture.

Well, we are off for supper. More to follow.
