Christ has no body on earth but yours,

no hands but yours,

no feet but yours.

Yours are the eyes through which

Christ's compassion for the world is to look out;

Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good;

and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.

Habitat in Sante Fe, Argentina

This year's Global Village build will take place in Sante Fe, Argentina - a mere 6 hour bus ride from Buenos Aires. When the Salado River overflowed its banks into the City of Sante Fe in April 2003, more than 30,000 families were affected. According to estimates by UN experts, the impact on the province's gross national product was as damaging as that of the earthquakes in El Salvador. Prior to the flood, the city already had one of the highest poverty indexes and housing deficits in the country. A quarter of the city's inhabitants already lived in substandard housing settlements surrounded by garbage dumps and contaminated waters. Theft and violence, along with the contamination, are the biggest threats to decent living in Sante Fe.

Dinner and Radio Tower Tour

You know the drill - try to match the picture with the description...
One picture is of Riley, Josh and Larry. The next is of Larry handing a 'shocking call' to Patrick.
The story of the radio tower is pretty amazing.

Okay, so a little catch up from last night's activities. We first went for a tour of the Radio Tower which played a pivitol role in WWII and how Hitler staged things to make Poland look like the aggressor. We sat down for a lecture from a local expert - I believe the lecture might have had a little more impact and stayed in all of our memory banks longer had we all not been dead dog tired after the work day. There were either several folks who fell asleep, OR several people were busy praying. I will have to admit that I too was struggling to stay awake and therefore resorted to do the "double cheek boogie" in my chair - you know, where you shift from side to side continually so you won't fall asleep? The room went dark a couple of times, but I fought it off for the most part.
We then headed to dinnner at a really good restaurant for Italian food. After dinner we split into teams of two and each had to fill out a test of Poland history. Because there was a prize being dangled for the winning team, the competition was again fierce :) You'd think that Scott would have figured out from the previous evening that this team is VERY competitive. Now, I need to clarify the rules that were stated. They were: 1. You cannot use your smart phone to Google answers and 2. You can't phone a friend. I have to state that because there was a little controversy later in the game when my partner, Laura, and I were coming back upstairs with our test. We were stopped by one of the waitresses who apparently knew we were working on a test and she asked if she could see it. OF COURSE I said yes! It's like having the Cliff Notes right there! :) Well, when Cory noticed this, she tried her best to prevent the waitress from helping but soon found herself being carried outside and back to Bill, her teammate. Of course, she was only walking by because she had gone upstairs to get her Blackberry to look up information - cheater! :) We had a huge laugh over the whole thing......and yes, Laura and I were disqualified - but it was worth it for the laughter alone. After dinner, most of us were just too exhausted to stay for our usual nightcap so it was back to the hotel for our earliest night of the trip. We sat in the hall a little bit and then it was off to bed for a good night's sleep which was VERY much needed after all the hauling we had done that day. The best part is that a cool front blew through and you could actually sleep at night!!!! Life is good!!!
More to follow.....
